    Q+A with Sarah Ruth

Q+A with Chickie & Roo Ep.3 Today we’re chatting with a sweet friend named Sarah Ruth Owens. She is such an inspiration in so many ways. Sarah Ruth is the unequivocal Nature Mama and a truly beautiful heart. Let’s hear what she has to offer about making nature a prominent part of our homeschools.     How many children do you have and what are their ages? Three boys. They are 7, 5, and 3 years old.   When did you begin homeschooling and what is your purpose behind this life decision? We started at birth? Haha. In all honestly, that is sort of our philosophy. We feel strongly that…

    Q + A with Stephanie

Q + A with Chickie & Roo: Ep. 2 Today, we’re sitting down with Stephanie from StoriesBeginAtHome to learn about her perspective as a home educating mother. She is exploring the rather uncommon topic of hybrid homeschooling. I personally feel that a lot of parents considering homeschooling for the future might benefit from hearing how and why she has chosen this path! I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Stephanie in person recently, and she is every bit as outgoing, joyful, and amazing as she appears online! Stephanie is a true inspiration to me as she navigates a full family, busy household and a creator career. As you read her…

    Time Flies

When our children are first born, it seems like forever until they’ll walk, talk, and be bustling little kids scampering around the house. It seems like ages until they’ll be holding intellectual conversations with us, driving a car, and moving away. But, boy, time flies, and those days come sooner than we expect. How do we cope with the rapid passing of time? How do we make the most of each day? How do we cherish our precious moments before they’ve escaped us?   I saw a quote online over the summer that said something to the effect of “We only have 18 summers with our children”. 18 summers. 18…

    Daily Kindness

Do your kids constantly bicker? Do they fight and argue? I think anyone with more than one child will say this happens more often than they’d like. My kids are definitely ‘frenemies’; absolutely best friends one minute and fighting the next. So, how do you promote daily kindness amongst your children? Do you have a reward system? Do you dish out consequences when they’re due. Or do you repeat yourself over and over to no avail? I most certainly do not have the answer to this question, so I’m honestly asking you all for your input! I have learned a few simple ways to at least temporarily calm the storm…

    Living With Intention

As the new school year is rolling around and already starting for some, I wanted to address a simple thought, Living With Intention. Amidst the hustle and bustle of normal daily mom-life, do you ever feel discouraged? Run down? Have moments of self-doubt? I think we all do and we owe it to ourselves to push those negative thoughts out of our hearts and our minds. Each and every mother has a million tasks on their plate, a million thoughts running through their mind, a million pressures from various sources. We have to be firm but caring, a provider but also a disciplinary, a giver and a taker, and multi-task…

    Moms Come First

I know, I know, kids come first. But do they? In the last 6 years of being a stay-at-home mom, I learned that, although it may sound selfish, I have to put myself first. Put your pitchforks away, let me explain. I thoroughly believe in the old adage, if you want to help someone else, you first need to know how to help yourself. If you’re a worn out and sleep-deprived mess, how can you expect to be your best for your children? I always put myself on the back burner and I know, at times, my family suffered from it. It’s OK to take care of yourself. It’s OK…
